I absolutely love architectural photography and videography.

GrowthPoint Property Greenery Project

Where did my love of architectural photography and videography start?

Not sure when it started, but I am fascinated by architecture. And it is quite an eclectic mix – glass & concrete, beachhouse chic and brutalism all seem to be my thing.

When I think back to when I first had to decide what to do after school, I wish I had been exposed to more stuff as I was growing up.
I knew nothing about about architectural styles, let alone the possibility of architectural photography and filmmaking as a career.

The importance of role models

I mean wouldn’t it have been great to have had an entrepreneur in the family or in my circle of people. Just seeing someone working for themselves and forging a path could have planted that seed earlier in my life.

If I had known a photographer or knew that a person could take photos for a living and raise a family, send their kids to private school and university. (Well, I am doing that anyway, but it took the long way round.)

What if I had been exposed to architecture, towering structures,  clean designs, rustic beach shacks, high functioning structures that influence the way people lived their lives and interacted with others.

I do wonder all these years later what could have been.

Living vicariously through my clients

The flip side is that I now by shooting architectural photography and videography, live vicariously through my clients. I can shoot beautiful spaces, experience the materials and how they are juxtaposed. I can look at the curve of a roof against it’s surrounding greenery and find those moments that the architects might have tried to create.

I can experience what it is like to shape flat sheets of metal info the sensual shape of a Ferrari 625 TRC Le-Mans prototype with an english wheel like Harry from English Wheel Fabrication does in the video I shot for my Artisan Project. Or walk into a cabinet makers workshop and immerse myself in the smell of the wood and run my fingers over the complete projects and feel an inner peace come over me.

In another life I might have been a cabinet maker like Josh and Pia from Tandem design, but I get to live all those lives and experience the best parts of them and that is pretty damn cool.

architectural photography and videography examples

Here are some photographs taken for GrowthPoint Properties specifically to showcase the greenery they value in their spaces. And I am pretty sure their clients value it just as much, I know I would.

I have also included a video I created for The Place, 1 Sandton Drive.

Have a fantastic day!
